Barbora Krejcikova to face Jasmine Paolini in 2024 Women’s Wimbledon Final

The finalists are set for Wimbledon on Saturday. We will see the seventh seed Jasmine Paolini of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, Italy and the 31st seed and 2021 French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova of Brno, Czech Republic.

It was a special semifinal Thursday at Wimbledon as two very competitive women’s final four matches took place. First, Paoloni, the 2024 French Open finalist, defeated Donna Vekic of Croatia 2-6, 6-4, 7-6. In the third set deciding super tiebreak, Paolini won 10-8.

One of the biggest stories in the match was the high degree of emotion Vekic displayed on the court. Vekic was in tears as she battled through injuries to her arm and leg, and in the end, was only two points away from becoming the first Croatian female tennis player to reach a Wimbledon singles final.

This was the longest women’s semifinal in the history of Wimbledon. The length of the match was two hours and 51 minutes.

The key statistic in the first semifinal was unforced errors. Vekic had a staggering 57, while Paolini had 25 less than her opponent, as she only had 32. Vekic had seven double faults, while Paolini had three.

In the other semifinal, Krejcikova rebounded very well after a slow start. She eventually got the win, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Rybakina, who has been flawless in her last three Wimbledon outings leading up to the final, had 37 unforced errors.

Head-to-head, Krejcikova has only played Paolini once in the past. That was in the first round of qualifying at the 2018 Australian Open. Krejcikova won quite handily by a score of 6-2, 6-1.
