Atlanta Hawks shooting guard Dyson Daniels of Bendigo, Australia has been named the National Basketball Association’s Most Improved Player for the 2024-25 season.
In 2024-25, Daniels averaged 14.1 points per game, 5.9 rebounds per game, and 4.4 assists per game. He also had a field goal percentage of .493, three point percentage of .340, and a free throw percentage of .583.
The one statistic that stood out over all the others this past season were steals. Daniels averaged three steals per game and had 229 steals overall in 76 games. Daniels led the NBA in steals per game, and total steals.
Daniels led the NBA in steals per game and total steaks by a wide margin. Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic of Sombor, Serbia and Oklahoma City Thunder shooting guard Cason Wallace of Dallas, Texas were tied for second place with 1.8 steals per game. Meanwhile, Wallace’s Canadian teammate, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of Toronto, Ontario was second in total steals with 131.
Last season in New Orleans, Daniels averaged 5.8 points per game, 3.9 rebounds per game, 2.7 assists per game, and 1.4 steals per game. He also had a field goal percentage of .447, three point percentage of .311, and free throw percentage of .642. Daniels saw a significant statistical improvement in every category except free throw percentage.
This is Daniels’s first season in Atlanta after being traded from the New Orleans Pelicans in the blockbuster deal involving Dejounte Murray on July 6. It is safe to say the Hawks won the trade as Daniels had a strong season, while the Pelicans missed the playoffs. Murray tore his anterior cruciate ligament in January, and his season was over.
