For the first time in World Cup history, Australia won a game via a shutout. On Saturday, the Socceroos were victorious as they came away with a 1-0 win over Tunisia to even their record in Qatar at one win and one loss. The Australian stars were goalkeeper Mat Ryan of Plumpton, New South Wales, and Mitchell Duke of Liverpool, New South Wales.

Ryan prevented the four shots on target by Tunisia from going into the net. Meanwhile, Duke scored the lone Australian goal on a header in the 23rd minute. Ryan is currently with F.C. Copenhagen in the Danish League, and Duke is with Fagiano Okayama in the second Japanese League.

Australia has had a shutout at the World Cup once before. That happened at the 1974 World Cup in West Germany. However Australia did not get the win, as they tied Chile at zero goals apiece.

France leads Group D with a record of two wins and zero losses. On Saturday, they beat Denmark 2-1. Both French goals were scored by Mbappe, who was able to kick the ball past the goal line in the 61st and 86th minutes. Mbappe also scored in France’s 4-1 win over Australia on November 22. Australia is all alone in second place in Group D with a record of one win and one loss. Tunisia and Denmark each have one point as they had a 0-0 draw in their first game.

In Group C, Poland beat Saudi Arabia 2-0 to improve to 1-0-1, and Argentina beat Mexico 2-0 to improve to 1-1. The Polish scorers were Piotr Zielinski and superstar Robert Lewandowski. The Argentinian scorers were superstar Lionel Messi and Enzo Fernandez.
