Five Australians and one adopted New Zealander, fought in the six bouts of UFC’s Fight Night 142 in Adelaide, Australia today.

Only one of the local fighters won their bout, with the others all succumbing to international opposition.

The first fight on the main card saw Aussie young-gun ‘Jimmy’ Crute pull off a late submission in the final ten seconds of his match-up with Scotland’s Paul Craig.

In a fight that continued to go to the ground, Crute showed great maturity for a 22 year old, impressing the commentators and fans at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.

This would prove to be the only luck the Aussie fighters had, as Suman Mokhtarian was stopped in the first round by the explosive Sodiq Yusuff, and Jake Matthews was submitted by Tony Martin in the third.

New Zealand-born UFC legend Mark Hunt also suffered a decision loss in his last fight for the promotion.

Other UFC royalty in Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rau and Junior dos Santos, had better fortune as they upset the home crowd with wins.

Shogun TKOed Australia’s Tyson Pedro early in the third round in the co-headliner.

While Tai Tuivasa, who had the crowd cheering for a lot of the headliner fight, became too sloppy and reckless in his search for a knockout blow, exposing himself to dos Santos, who took advantage and ended the fight in the second round with a TKO as well.
