ATP Tour returning to Brisbane in 2024

According to the ATP Tour on Friday, the Association of Tennis Professionals, and the Women’s Tennis Association, is returning to Brisbane, Australia in 2024. The ATP Tour previously had an event in Brisbane from 2009 to 2019. The WTA Tour had previously been in Brisbane from 2009 to 2020.
The 2024 Brisbane International will actually commence on New Year’s Eve, 2023, and end on January 7. It will take place at the Queensland Tennis Centre. The men’s event will be at the 250 level, while the women’s event will be at the 500 level. A total of 32 men’s tennis players will be competing and 48 women.
It will now be interesting to see if Brisbane will still be a co-host of the United Cup. The mixed gender team competition, which was won by the United States in 2023, was slated two take place in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth, also in the first week of January.
Leading up to the first major of the year in tennis (the Australian Open) in 2024, are five ATP events. In addition to the United Cup and Brisbane International are the Hong Kong Open, Adelaide International, and Auckland Open. On the women’s side, there will be the United Cup, two events in Adelaide, the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand, and the Hobart International.
Two Australian men have won the Brisbane International in the past. Lleyton Hewitt of Adelaide was victorious in 2014 over Switzerland’s Roger Federer in the final, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. Then, Nick Kyrgios of Canberra was victorious in 2018 over Ryan Harrison of the United States in the final, 6-4, 6-2.
Three women and one man have won the Brisbane International on multiple occasions. Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic won in 2017, 2019 and 2020. Victoria Azarenka of Belarus won in 2009 and 2016. Serena Williams of the United States won in 2013 and 2014. Andy Murray of Great Britain won in 2012 and 2013.
