Ascot Tip Sheet & Staking Plan – Wednesday 28th October

An Ascot midweek card I am actually keen to get involved in. The rail goes out 14m on yet another ripper day for it and with the south westerly in play, sets things up nicely for what should be a swoopers day given how the track traditionally plays under these conditions.

  • Our WA Tipping Results Results: +32.63 Units (since 01/07/2020)

Race 1 – 12:54PM THE OLSEN’S 60TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY MAIDEN (1200m)
8. Alpha and Omega – 5. Ghobella – 6. Smashing – 1. Famous Jurney
Alpha and Omega
Think Wolfey might have a nice one here. Got absolutely no luck on debut here a fortnight ago, got held up horribly between horses in the straight when absolutely bolting for a run behind Blow Me Out and although the margin was 4.5L, with any luck in the straight this girl would’ve made much more of a race of it. Led up her debut lead-up trial and did it really nicely in solid time so I’m confident she can take up a more prominent position here and if Shooter can get across without leaving her caught deep she’s going to be really hard to beat.

Race 2 – 1:34PM TABTOUCH BETTER YOUR BET MAIDEN (1200m)
3. The White Witch – 4. Nobellity – 2. Trevern – 1. Powerful
The White Witch
Have some time for this horse. Ran a really nice close on debut behind Our Boy Dylan when that galloper was flying, before having a crack at the WA Sires where she endured a torrid run and was very gallant in sticking on to only finish 3L off the winner Watch Me Dance when 3 wide no cover the trip. 1st up this prep endured a similar run but the trial before that was solid enough so I’m willing to forgive. Looks to be a bit of speed here so if Kennedy can just slide her back in the field with some cover, with the track pattern favouring those running on, she’s going to be having the last crack at them.

1 Unit WIN

Race 3 – 2:14PM WESTERN RACEPIX MAIDEN (1500m)
8. Red Hot Hope – 1. Block Of Land – 9. Type Won – 6. Doowahdiddy
Red Hot Hope
Loved the debut run of this half to Kay Cee a fortnight ago behind Brave Dream. Got snagged right back from the wide draw, travelled up in the last pair, couldn’t get out around heels until there was 200m to go (still last at this stage) before balancing up and really powering through the line to grab 3rd. The form out of the race has held up well too, with Gallant Ranger winning over the weekend at Northam and Silent Act running 2nd on Saturday to talented type Beau Zoom. The rise in trip here to 1500m should be of no issue and if he can get a nice trail up in the running line, can be the one powering home over the top late.

1st up at the mile may always seem a bit quizzical to most but he is in would I would say the best stable to set that placement up with success. Has had the 2 lead-up trials for this with most recent of those being over the 1450m. Really liked both of these pieces of work, particularly the trial which he took out over the 1450m when he put them away with a hint of class about him. Gives the vibe that he’s really progressive and has a nice turn of foot, should position up one out, three back and be too strong at the end as he moves through the grades, good starting point for him here.

2.5 Units WIN

Race 5 – 3:30PM AMELIA PARK LODGE HANDICAP (1000m)

Race 7 – 4:45PM CARBINE CLUB OF WA HANDICAP (2200m)
10. Pink And Purple – 8. All Man – 4. Without Reason – 9. Amerissa
Pink and Purple
Think the price on offer for this Fernie stayer is a bit of overs off the back of his last run in Saturday grade. Drew widest and was taken back to the tail on the fence, looked to be really hitting top gear when he just got squeezed between runners on the fence with 200m to go before picking up again and hitting the line really nicely on the heels of runners who were afforded much nicer runs in transit. Gets a much more economical draw here in barrier 2 to position up a bit closer and with better luck last start he would have been beating Without Reason for mine, who he starts more than double the price here? Really keen he runs a big race here with the set-up on an each way basis.
