Arizona Cardinals sign running back Darrel Williams

The Arizona Cardinals have signed running back Darrel Williams of Marrero, Louisiana. The 27-year-old came to terms on a one-year-deal according to Darren Urban of azcardinals.com.
Williams, who is 27 years of age, will be joining his second National Football League franchise. He previously played the last four years with the Kansas City Chiefs. In 2021, Williams had 144 rushes for 558 yards, and six touchdowns. He also had 47 catches for 452 yards and two touchdowns. Williams’s best game in 2021 came in a 41-14 Chiefs win over the Las Vegas Raiders on November 14. Williams had nine catches for 101 yards and one touchdown, along with 11 rushes for 43 yards.
For his career, Williams had 237 rushes for 912 yards and 10 touchdowns, along with 83 catches for 762 yards and four touchdowns. In 2022, Williams will be the backup running back to Pro Bowler James Conner, who played his first season in Arizona in 2021, after four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Just how good was Conner in 2022? Well, he had a career-high 15 rushing touchdowns. That was tied for second in the NFL with Damien Harris of the New England Patriots. The NFL leader in rushing touchdowns in 2021 was Jonathan Taylor of the Indianapolis Colts, who had 18 touchdowns.
The Cardinals were looking for a backup to Conner when running back Chase Edmonds of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania signed a two-year deal worth $12.6 million with the Miami Dolphins on March 14. Last season with the Cardinals, Edmonds had 116 rushes for 592 yards and two touchdowns, along with 43 catches for 311 yards. In his career, Edmonds has 333 rushes for 1551 yards and nine touchdowns, along with 128 catches for 921 yards and five touchdowns.
