‘Angry’ Turbo looks to England again after Manly restructure tabled deal

Tom Trbojevic has been left looking into options in the Super League again after Manly backflipped on a deal they’d tabled their star fullback some weeks ago, trimming as much as $300,000 out of the offer.
The Sea Eagles had originally offered Trbojevic a three-year deal worth between $850,000 and $900,000 per season, which would have seen “Turbo” stay on the northern beaches through to 2029.

Trbojevic had been ready to put pen to paper, only for the club to then withdraw the contract and come back with a restructured deal that would see him earn closer to $700K by 2029. The sticking point was a ratchet clause that bumps the deal up if the next broadcast deal is bigger – Tom’s team was under the impression that was already included.
The whole affair has left Trbojevic “angry” at the club and exploring his other options. He still doesn’t want to play for another NRL team if he can help it, but is very open to moving to the Super League if the pay is right.
On that front, Sam Burgess’ Warrington have already approached the 28-year-old for 2027.
That deal would run for two years and would be worth less than the Sea Eagles’ offer now on the table.
But, Trbojevic may still accept it instead, considering he’s fuming at the club where he’s played 170 games and has spent his entire rugby league career. (Not dissimilar to the whole Daly Cherry-Evans affair from recently, we’d add.)

Sea Eagles chief executive Tony Mestrov did recently contact Trbojevic about the situation, speaking to the club’s fullback about where Manly stands before Trbojevic flew out to Bali with his partner. It’s unclear at this stage whether Trbojevic was happy with what was discussed. The vibe, however, was that the Sea Eagles hadn’t meant any disrespect.

If Turbo does take up this deal, there’s every chance he shifts onto the wing or into the centres before the end of the three-year deal to make space for boom youngster Lehi Hopoate at number one. Hopoate is seen as the future of the club’s backline and will be fit in before long.
Trbojevic’s brother, Jake, has also been offered a one-year extension for 2027, at this stage.
