Angela Stanford criticizes Bubba Watson for joining the LIV Tour

The biggest story in golf this year is the creation of the LIV Golf Tour. The primary reason why the tour has become controversial is because the tour is funded by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund.
A week ago, two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson of Bagdad, Florida became the latest defector of the PGA Tour to join the LIV Golf Tour. In making the decision, Bubba stated that he had the support of his wife Angie. Watson stated according to golfwrx.com, “my wife loved it, we prayed about it, we came to the decision and here we are.”
However one of the biggest critics of Watson’s decision was LPGA major champion Angela Stanford of Fort Worth, Texas. Stanford went on Twitter, and stated, “most educated women, like your wife, wouldn’t love taking money from a country that suppresses women.”

Stanford won her major title at the 2018 Evian Championship in France. There she shot a four-round score of -12 and beat fellow Americans Austin Ernst, Mo Martin, and Amy Olson, along with South Korea’s Sei-young Kim by a stroke.
Speaking of major golf, the Women’s British Open started on Thursday from Muirfield, Scotland. This is the final major in women’s golf on the LPGA schedule in 2022. The previous four major champions so far this year are Jennifer Kupcho of the United States (the Chevron Championship), Minjee Lee of Australia (the United States Women’s Open), In-gee Chun of South Korea (the Women’s PGA Championship), and Brooke Henderson of Canada (the Evian Masters).
