Andrey Rublev of Moscow, Russia won the 2025 Qatar Open on Saturday. In the final, he defeated 2024 United States Open semifinalist Jack Draper of Great Britain, 7-5, 5-7, 6-1.

Rublev had no double faults in the match (compared to two for Draper), and broke Draper three times in seven opportunities. While the first two sets were relatively close, it was a dominant third set for Rublev as he won 85% of his first serve points (11 of 13), all five of his second serve points, and broke Draper twice.

En route to the final, Rublev, the fifth seed, beat two formidable opponents. In the quarterfinals, Rublev beat Australian Alex De Minaur of Sydney, the second seed, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6. The third set tiebreak went 18 points before Rublev won 10-8. This was the first of two consecutive third set tiebreaks for Rublev in the tournament. In the semifinals, De Minaur beat Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada, the 2021 United States Open semifinalist, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6.

This was Rublev’s 17th ATP title. It was his sixth title at the 500 point level. Rublev’s other 500 point wins came at the 2020 Hamburg Open, 2020 St. Petersburg Open, 2020 Vienna Open, 2021 Rotterdam Open, the 2022 Dubai Tennis Championship.

Rublev actually has won the Qatar Open in the past. In the 2020 final, he defeated Corentin Moutet of France in the final, 6-2, 7-6. The 2025 Qatar Open had more significance than the 2020 Qatar Open, as the 2020 Qatar Open was only a 250 point tournament.

There were two Russians who won a significant tennis tournament on the weekend. Mirra Andreeva won the Dubai Tennis Championship on the women’s side by beating Clara Tauson of Denmark 7-6, 6-1 in the final.
