Amy Yang of Ilsan, South Korea has won the 2024 Women’s PGA Championship. The 34-year-old won her first career major title by posting a score of seven-under-par.

Yang had a first round score of two-under-par 70, second round score of four-under-par 68, third round score of one-under-par 71, and fourth round score of even par. Yang was the second round leader alongside Sarah Schmelzel of Phoenix, Arizona at -6, and the third round leader of the Women’s PGA Championship all by herself.

On Sunday, Yang had a comfortable lead throughout the afternoon. At one point, she was at -10, before bogeying the 16th hole, and double bogeying the 17th hole.

Prior to her struggles down the finish, Yang had five birdies and two bogeys. She birdied the first, fifth, eighth, 11th and 13th holes, and bogeyed the third and 10th holes.

Three other players were in contention and tied for second place at -4. There you could find Japan’s Miyu Yamashita, American Lilia Vu of Fountain Valley, California, and Jin-young Ko of South Korea. Vu and Ko are two-time major champions. Ko won the 2019 ANA Inspiration and 2019 Evian Masters. Vu won the 2023 Chevron Championship and 2023 Women’s British Open.

Yang has now won six LPGA events. Her previous titles came at the 2013 KEB-HanaBank Championship in Yang’s home country of South Korea, the 2015, 2017, and 2019 Thailand Open, and the 2023 CME Group Tour Championship in Naples, Florida.

By winning the Women’s PGA Championship, Yang moved from 25th to fifth in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings, and will be one of three South Korean women competing at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. She will join Ko and Hyo-Joo Kim.
