Ally Ewing had a narrow one-stroke lead over five golfers after the first round of the 2023 Women’s British Open at Walton Heath Golf Club in Surrey, England on Thursday. Now after the second round, the native of Tupelo, Mississippi has a gigantic five stroke lead.

Just how impressive has Ewing actually been? Well, she has posted the best round in the entire field on two consecutive days. After a first round score of -4, she had a second round score of -6. On Friday, Ewing had seven birdies and one bogey. She birdied the third, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, 11th and 16th holes, and bogeyed the 18th hole. In the first two rounds, Ewing has birdied the third and eighth holes on both days.

Ewing’s 72-hole score is currently at -10. There are currently three golfers tied for second place at -5. There you can find American Andrea Lee, England’s Charley Hull and Japan’s Minami Katsu. What is remarkable about Ewing’s performance on Friday is that after the first round there were 31 golfers within three strokes of Ewing. Now there are zero.

Ewing has won three LPGA events in the past. All three wins have come since 2020, with one title coming for three straight years. Ewing won the 2020 LPGA Drive on Championship in Gold Canyon, Arizona, the 2021 Bank of Hope LPGA Match-Play Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada (where she beat 2020 Women’s British Open champion Sophia Popov of Weingarten, Germany 2&1), and the 2022 Kroger Queen City Championship in Cincinnati, Ohio. In the two stroke play tournaments where Ewing was victorious, she posted a total score of -38.
