Alexander Zverev wins 2024 Paris Masters

For the second time in 2024, Alexander Zverev of Hamburg, Germany, is a Masters 1000 tennis champion. On Sunday, Zverev defeated Ugo Humbert of France, rather convincingly, 6-2, 6-2 in the final of the Paris Indoor hard court tournament. With the win, Zverev moves past Carlos Alcaraz of Spain into second place in the ATP world rankings.
In the final, the service statistics were in Zverev’s favour. Zverev had four aces and zero double faults, while Humbert had three aces and four double faults. Humbert also did not have one break point opportunity the entire match, while Zverev had six break point chances, of which he broke Humbert four times.
Humbert, who was ranked 15th in Paris, was one of three seeded players to lose to Zverev throughout the week. Zverev also beat the 10th seed Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece, 7-5, 6-4 in the quarterfinals, and 13th seed Holger Rune of Denmark, 6-3, 7-6 in the semifinals.
Zverev’s prior Masters 1000 series title in 2024 came at the Italian Open leading up to the French Open. There, Zverev beat Nicolas Jarry of Chile in the final, 6-4, 7-5.
This is Zverev’s seventh Masters 1000 title. The five prior to this year were the 2017 Italian Open (beat Novak Djokovic of Serbia in the final, 6-4, 6-3), the 2017 Canadian Open in Montreal, Quebec (beat Roger Federer of Switzerland in the final, 6-3, 6-4), the 2018 Madrid Open (beat the recently retired Dominic Thiem of Austria in the final, 6-4, 6-4), the 2021 Madrid Open (beat Matteo Berrettini of Italy in the final, 6-7, 6-4, 6-3), and the 2021 Cincinnati Open (beat Andrey Rublev of Russia in the final, 6-2, 6-3).
