Alex de Minaur of Sydney, Australia is a grand slam quarterfinalist for the third time in his tennis career. After making the final eight of the United States Open in 2020, and the French Open earlier this year, de Minaur is in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon.

De Minaur, who is the ninth seed at the All-England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, was first on Court One on Monday. His victory came in four sets as he defeated Arthur Fils of France, 6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

Two key statistics in the match were unforced errors and double faults. De Minaur had four double faults to Fils’s seven, while de Minaur had 41 unforced errors, compared to 66 for Fils.

Next up for de Minaur in the quarterfinals is the second seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia. de Minaur has beaten Djokovic once in his career. That came in the quarterfinals of the 2024 United Cup in Perth, as de Minaur was victorious 6-4, 6-4. In the process, de Minaur stopped Djokovic’s 43 match winning streak at the time. Djokovic meanwhile beat de Minaur 6-2, 6-1, 6-2 easily in the fourth round of the 2023 Australian Open, and then 7-5, 6-4 in the quarterfinals of Monte Carlo in 2024.

The other three men’s quarterfinals will see Jannik Sinner of Italy against Daniil Medvedev of Russia, Carlos Alcaraz of Spain versus Tommy Paul of the United States, and Taylor Fritz of the United States versus Lorenzo Musetti of Italy. The most significant fourth round win came by Fritz, as he was down two sets to love before coming back to beat German Alexander Zverev, 4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 6-3.
