Aleksandar Vukic of Sydney, Australia had one of the biggest wins in his tennis career on Wednesday as he shocked American Sebastian Korda, the 22nd seed, in the second round of the 2025 Australian Open, 6-4, 3-6, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5. Vukic is one of two Australians still in the Australian Open in the men’s singles draw. He is joined by the eighth seed Alex de Minaur of Sydney.

The one key statistic was missed opportunities for Korda. He in fact had 14 break point chances, of which he only converted four.

This was the second time in Vukic’s career he has beaten Korda. The first time came in the second round of the National Bank Open in Toronto, Ontario, Canada as Vukic beat Korda 6-3, 4-6, 7-6.

Next up for Vukic, is Jack Draper of London, England, the 15th seed, and 2024 United States Open semifinalist. This will be their first meeting head to head.

There is only one other Australian left in the men’s singles draw, and that is de Minaur, the eighth seed, who is poised for a long run in Melbourne over the next 10 days. The eighth seed had no problem with American Tristan Boyer in a 6-2, 6-4, 6-3 win. de Minaur broke Boyer six times in the match, and will next play the 31st seed Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina. This will be their first meeting ever head to head.

As Isaac McIntyre pointed out earlier this week, de Minaur is finally healthy after dealing with hip issues. He decided against surgery, and it appears he made the right decision.
