AFL Round 20: Our Insights & Selections

Our analyst is back for another week of AFL and has found some selections for you to follow.

COLLINGWOOD $1.38 v CARLTON $3.10 – Friday, 7.50pm MCG

There’s a lot at stake for the Blues but they will have to pull one out of the box with its mounting injury list to win this. They need to win though, and the Pies virtually have the top spot sewn up so they can take the foot of the accelerator. Whether they want to toy with their form remains to be seen. The Blues need to win to be prominent in the race for the eight.

GEELONG $1.07 v FREMANTLE $8.50 – Saturday, 1.45pm, GMHBA Stadium

The Cats will be looking for another win on their home turf after being well beaten by Brisbane and they get a great opportunity against the out of form the Dockers. The Dockers though have won their past two clashes against the Cats including a win at Kardinia Park last year. They would have to turn their form around considerably though having lost its past five games.

WESTERN BULLDOGS $1.52 v GWS GIANTS $2.55 – Saturday, 1.45pm, Mars Stadium, Ballarat.

For teams who are billed as traditional rivals, even this early on in the Giants history, it’s a one way street in terms of these matches recently with the Bulldogs having won the past five clashes. The Giants have won their past six matches. The Bulldogs have won seven of 10 matches at Ballarat.

GOLD COAST $3.50 v BRISBANE $1.30 – Saturday 4.35pm, Heritage Bank Stadium, Gold Coast

It’s the Queensland Derby but it’s been a one act affair for most of its history. The Lions have won the past nine Q clashes and overall, 18 out of 24. Brisbane’s only recent loss was by a point to Melbourne. The Suns succumbed to the Giants last week after a new coach bounce against the Saints.

• The Bet: Brisbane -20.5 points $1.90

ESSENDON $2.15 v SYDNEY $1.70 – Saturday, 7.25pm Marvel Stadium

The Bombers need to get their season back on track after being easily beaten in their past two matches by Geelong and the Bulldogs. The Swans have kept their chances of playing finals football alive in recent weeks and they are in a good vein of form. These teams often produce tight entertaining matches, and this should be another one.

ADELAIDE $2.80 v PORT ADELAIDE $1.44  – Saturday, 7.40pm Adelaide Oval

It’s another chapter of the Adelaide Derby and there’s a bit at stake for both teams. A win for Adelaide keeps their slim finals hopes alive while the Power need to win to stay in second placing. Amazingly the Adelaide Derby has been played 53 times for 26 wins to Port and 27 to Adelaide. Look for it to become equal.

HAWTHORN $2.15 v ST KILDA $1.70 – Sunday, 1.10pm Marvel Stadium

The Hawks were unlucky against Richmond and with the return of James Sicily they have played some good football recently. The Saints finally got over the Kangaroos last week, late in the match, They need to win to stay in the eight.

• THE BET: Hawthorn $2.15

RICHMOND $2.60 v MELBOURNE $1.50 – Sunday, 3.20pm MCG

It’s probably all or nothing for the Tigers as a win would be a significant step to playing in the finals and a loss would make things difficult. They are playing competitive football but they face a significant challenge in the Demons who have beaten them in their past three clashes. Both teams have won their past three matches. It should be close.

• The Bet: Richmond the win at $2.60

WEST COAST EAGLES $2.10 v NORTH MELBOURNE $1.72 – Sunday, 4.40pm Optus Stadium

It doesn’t happen often that two teams who have lost 17 matches get to clash but that’s what’s n offer here. The Eagles past two matches at their home ground have produced spirited efforts against St Kilda and Richmond and they get a host of players back. The Roos made the Saints work for victory against them last week.

• The Bet: West Coast the win at $2.10
