Adam Silver makes valid point regarding New York’s coronavirus law

National Basketball Association Commissioner Adam Silver is encouraging New York to change its rather strange vaccination rules. According to Jack Maloney of CBS Sports on Wednesday, Silver is questioning why players on the Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks must be vaccinated at least once to play home games within the state, but the same rules do not apply to visiting players.

The law has been in the spotlight because Nets star player Kyrie Irving has put his team in an awkward position for his personal refusal to be vaccinated for coronavirus. Currently, Irving can only play selected road games in states that have lighter coronavirus rules and is only eligible to play eight more Nets games during the regular season.

Silver’s point is a valid one. By allowing unvaccinated opposition players into Madison Square Garden and Barclays Center, but not allowing unvaccinated players from the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets into their home stadium is quite frankly, ridiculous. Also players only have to be vaccinated once, when studies shown by doctors worldwide that people should be vaccinated twice or even three times to stop the spread of the pandemic.

The bottom line is that the rule put in force by the state of New York should apply to all at all times and not just for some. Silver has every reason to question the absurdity of this law.

It should be noted that Silver is encouraging everyone to be vaccinated for coronavirus. There have been 5,042,417 cases of coronavirus in New York state to date, and 67,180 deaths. There are also 2,230,917 active cases.
