On Sunday, Cooper Kupp of the Los Angeles Rams became the eighth wide receiver in Super Bowl history to be named Super Bowl MVP. He had eight catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns as the Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 in Super Bowl LVI. Let’s take a look at the seven other wide receivers who have been named Super Bowl MVP.


Lynn Swann–Pittsburgh Steelers–In Super Bowl X, Swann had four catches for 161 yards and one touchdown as the Steelers defeated the Dallas Cowboys 21-17. Swann’s touchdown catch was for 64 yards with three minutes and two seconds left in the fourth quarter, and put Pittsburgh up 21-10 at the time.


Fred Biletnikoff–Oakland Raiders–In Super Bowl XI, Fred Biletnikoff had four catches for 79 yards as the Raiders defeated the Minnesota Vikings 32-14. Biletknikoff holds the record for least number of receiving yards among all wide receivers who have been named Super Bowl MVP.


Jerry Rice–San Francisco 49ers–In Super Bowl XXIII, Rice had 11 catches for 215 yards and one touchdown as the 49ers beat the Cincinnati Bengals 20-16. Rice’s 215 receiving yards was the most ever by a wide receiver in the Super Bowl.


Deion Branch–New England Patriots–In Super Bowl XXXIX, Branch had 11 catches for 133 yards as the Patriots defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 24-21. Branch’s 11 catches tied for the most in Super Bowl history.

Hines Ward–Pittsburgh Steelers–In Super Bowl XL, Ward had five catches for 123 yards and one touchdown in a 21-10 Steelers win over the Seattle Seahawks. Ward’s touchdown catch was for 43 yards from wide receiver Antwaan Randle El. It was the first time a wide receiver had thrown a touchdown pass in the Super Bowl.


Santonio Holmes–Pittsburgh Steelers–In Super Bowl XLIII, Holmes had nine catches for 131 yards and one touchdown in a 27-23 Steelers win over the Arizona Cardinals. Holmes had the game-winning touchdown catch for the Steelers with 35 seconds left in the game.


Julian Edelman–New England Patriots–Super Bowl LIII was the lowest scoring Super Bowl ever, with the Patriots defeating the Los Angeles Rams 13-3. However it was not a defensive player who was named the Super Bowl MVP, but a wide receiver. Julian Edelman of the Patriots had 10 catches for 141 yards.
