A Lim Kim leads after round two of the 2023 Chevron Championship

A Lim Kim of South Korea is the leader after 36 holes of the 2023 Chevron Championship. The 2020 United States Women’s Open champion is at -8. This is the first time that the Chevron Championship is taking place in Texas. It had taken place in California since 1983, when it was first declared a major championship.

Kim’s 36 round score is -8. She had a score of one under par after round one, and then had a seven under par 65 in round two. On Thursday in round one, Kim had three birdies, one eagle and four bogeys. She eagled the fourth hole, birdied the sixth, ninth and 13th holes, and bogeyed the second, seventh, eighth, and 12th holes. Then on Friday in round two, Kim had eight birdies and one bogey. She birdied the second, fourth, eighth, ninth, 11th, 13th, 14th and 17th holes, and bogeyed the 10th hole.

Kim has a one stroke lead over Americans Megan Khang and Lilia Vu who are tied for second place at -7. There is a three-way tie for fourth place. Two strokes back at -6 are three major champions–Brooke Henderson of Canada, Patty Tavatanakit of Thailand, and Nelly Korda of the United States. Henderson won the 2016 Women’s PGA Championship and the 2022 Evian Championship. Tavatanakit won the 2021 ANA Inspiration and Korda won the 2021 Women’s PGA Championship. Three more players are at -5 and three strokes back. Those players are Angel Yin and Allisen Corpuz of the United States, as well as Albane Valenzuela of Switzerland. It should be noted that the first major in women’s golf changed its sponsorship from ANA to Chevron in 2022, and changed locations this year.
