According to ESPN on Tuesday, National Football League secondary player Logan Ryan of Berlin, New Jersey retired at the age of 33. Ryan played 11 seasons in the NFL from 2013 to 2023. For the first seven NFL seasons, Ryan was a cornerback. The last four seasons he was a safety.

Ryan began his NFL career with the New England Patriots from 2013 to 2016. He then played three seasons with the Tennessee Titans from 2017 to 2019, two seasons with the New York Giants in 2020 and 2021, and then one season each with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2022), and San Francisco 49ers (2023).

In 154 regular season games, Ryan had 755 combined tackles (545 solo tackles and 210 assisted tackles), 20 tackles for a loss, 26 quarterback hits, 19 interceptions for 198 yards, one pick six, 98 pass deflections, 15 forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and 13 sacks. Ryan’s interception for a touchdown came in his rookie season of 2013.

This past season in San Francisco, Ryan had 13 combined tackles (nine solo tackles and four combined tackles), and one tackle for a loss in five games. Ryan signed with the 49ers on December 6 because safety Talanoa Hufanga suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Ryan was a two-time Super Bowl champion with the Patriots. He won in 2015 and 2017. In Super Bowl XLIX, a 28-24 Patriots win over the Seattle Seahawks, Ryan had one solo tackle and one pass deflection. Then in Super Bowl LI, a 34-28 Patriots win over the Atlanta Falcons, he had six combined tackles (four solo tackles and two assisted tackles).

Ryan played his college football at Rutgers. He was the 49ers’s third round pick, 83rd overall, in the 2013 NFL Draft.
