2025 MLB Wildcard series set
5 months ago - Sportingbase
The 2025 Major League Baseball regular season finished on Sunday. We now know who will play who in the American League and National League Wildcard Series starting Tuesday.
There will be a fascinating wildcard series between the Yankees and Red Sox at Yankee Stadium. This is one of the most intriguing rivalries in all of MLB. That is because they have played 2324 games against each other since May 7, 1903. The other wildcard series will have the Detroit Tigers playing the Cleveland Guardians at Cleveland’s Progressive Field. The Guardians won the American League Central this past weekend as they finished a game ahead of the Tigers. It is interesting the Yankees and Red Sox are both in the American League East and the Guardians and Tigers are both in the American League Central.

Meanwhile, in the National League, the Cincinnati Reds clinched a playoff spot on the final day of the season as the New York Mets lost 4-0 to the Miami Marlins. The Reds will now play the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium in one of two wildcard series. The other matchup has the San Diego Padres playing the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.
In the American League, the Toronto Blue Jays and the Seattle Mariners got first round byes. Meanwhile, in the National League, the Milwaukee Brewers and the Philadelphia Phillies got first round byes. The Blue Jays will play the winner of Yankees and Red Sox. The Mariners will play the winner of the Tigers and Guardians. The Phillies will play the winner of the Dodgers and Reds. The Brewers will face the winner of the Cubs and Padres.
