2024 San Domenico Review: What The Jockeys Said

Storm Boy showed that he has returned to his best form when dominating the G3 San Domenico Stakes on Saturday. Here’s what the jockeys said after the race.

Adam Hyeronimus (Storm Boy – Winner)

“Myself, Gai and Adrian, the fella that rides him trackwork and those who look after him and obviously the whole stable as well, we know what he can do. I was very pleased to be able come here and have him do the talking. I knew my fate when I cantered off into the gates and we went around lovely and relaxed, in a good rhythm. I knew we were on. I thought he jumped relatively well at 1100m. I didn’t have to be probably as aggressive as I thought I was going to have to be. I knew once I did find the front he’d drop the bit. He only needed a breather for 100m given the sectionals I know he can run are pretty devastating. Once I got that 200m rest and I kicked him up at the top of the straight he just grew again and off he went.”

Tim Clark (Mayfair – Second)

“Really brave effort from him. I had to sit outside the leader and had him stretched a little bit at the 1100m. He will be better out in distance.”

Tommy Berry (Tropicus – 3rd)

“He’s a lovely colt. It was all about teaching him today. He is the horse who is going to get the 14/1600m. He’s still learning to get around this way of going. Didn’t make the bends very well. Gee you would have to have loved the last furlong.”

James McDonald (Gatsby’s – 4th)

“He jumped and put himself in a really good spot. Travelled well. He just failed to let go on that fast ground.”

Tyller Schiller (King Of Roseau – 5th)

“I think he has returned really well. He hit the line nicely. I probably just had to give away a bit too much ground early. I was happy with the way he finished off.”

Dylan Gibbons (Perspiration – 6th)

“His run was better than it looks. He just hated that firm ground when I let his head go.”

Tom Sherry (Extreme Diva – 7th)

“That was a race probably too strong for her but she didn’t disgrace herself. Stuck to her task quite nicely.”
