The Grand Final is upon us and it is Collingwood & Brisbane that will do battle to see who will be crowned the 2023 champions – Here’s a look at our preview & tips.
COLLINGWOOD $1.70 v BRISBANE LIONS $2.10 – MCG 2.30pm Saturday
It’s the top two teams at the end of the AFL season who will fight it out for the Premiership with Collingwood and Brisbane turning back the clock 20 years to slug out.
In 2002 and 2003 Brisbane prevailed over Collingwood in the Grand Final and that could happen again on Saturday.
Collingwood have as they have an uncanny knack of doing has scraped in to win both of their finals against Melbourne and then GWS.
Brisbane had little problem dealing with Port Adelaide but had to dig deep after Carlton’s great start to win by 16 points.
Brisbane has a great record against Collingwood having won their past six matches against them including a 24 point win against them at the Docklands in Round 23.
They do have a significant hurdle to overcome though in the MCG where they have won one from their past 16 games.
The Lions advantage over Collingwood is that they have a more potent forward line.
Collingwood will again try and tie them down as they haven’t kicked a score of more than 60 points in its two finals.
They have also lost their most potent forward from the preliminary final in Dan McStay who kicked three goals.
A lot will rest on the shoulders of Jordan De Goey, who was brilliant in the Preliminary Final and Nick Daicos.
Brisbane’s forward line contains a host of goal kickers such as Joe Daniher, Eric Hipwood, Charlie Cameron, Zac Bailey and Lincoln McCarthy. It’s hard to see how the Magpies will contain them.
Also look for Oscar McInerney to dominate in the ruck and feed the likes of Lachie Neale and Josh Dunkley.
