2022 Inglis Nursery Review: What The Jockeys Said

Kerrin McEvoy was able to push through a tight gap which saw Saltaire shoot through to victory. Here’s what the jockeys said post race.

Kerrin McEvoy (Saltaire – Winner)

“She took good improvement. I rode her on Tuesday morning. John had been pleased with her since that gritty run at Newcastle running some slick time. She has done a really good job there. She knuckled through when half off the bridle into a confined space around the corner.

“She got through, got her nose through the gap and then coasted nicely when the favourite was wilting the last bit.

“She worked out wide on the Kenso the other morning. As they can do she spotted the winning post on her outside and clocked off the last 100m of her work the other morning. She still put together some solid work. You’d like to think she is still getting the hang of it. She is small but really pretty.”

Brenton Avdulla (Facile – Second)

“She ran really well. We haven’t been able to get off the bridle at home. First time she has come off the bridle. She wasn’t sure what to do but then her last 50m through the line was good.”

Regan Bayliss (Blanc De Blanc – 3rd)

“Great run. Switch the barrier – she wins the race.”

Tim Clark (The Little Pumper – 4th)

“Good run on his debut. Will be better for the experience and better when he gets over further.”

Rachel King (Disneck – 5th)

“Good genuine run. Better suited up in distance not down.”

Winona Costin (Line Of Law – 6th)

“Really good run. Jumped a bit awkwardly. Hit the line good late.”

Jason Collett (Tango Fever – 7th)

“Settled in a good spot. Got some clear air but just wasn’t able to finish it off.”

Jay Ford (Istoria Girl – 8th)

“She did well. She was very raw and inexperienced. Today is a good confidence booster for her.”

Michael Dee (Bold Julius – 9th)

“Run off its feet early. Was copping a lot of kick back too which he was very hesitant about. Sustained a nice enough gallop to the line. In time he’ll be a nice colt.”

Tom Sherry (Alfavita – 10th)

“Just a prep away. He’ll be OK.”

Sam Clipperton (Mercury Rose – 11th)

“Just very new and still early days.”
