Week eight of the 2023 National Football League regular season is now complete. Here are the top five headlines.

5) Jacksonville Jaguars and Seattle Seahawks win statement games.

The Jacksonville Jaguars and Seattle Seahawks won statement games on Sunday. The Jaguars beat the Steelers 20-10 to improve to 6-2, while the Seahawks beat the Cleveland Browns 24-20 to improve to 5-2. In Pittsburgh, Brandon McManus of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania made four field goals in tough weather conditions, while in Seattle, Geno Smith of Miramar, Florida threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to rookie wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba of Nacogdoches, Texas with 38 seconds left to give the Seahawks a win.


4) A.J. Brown makes NFL history.

A.J. Brown made NFL history on Sunday by becoming the first NFL wide receiver to have six consecutive games with a minimum of 125 yards receiving. He had eight catches for 130 yards and two touchdowns on Sunday in a 38-31 Eagles win over the Washington Commanders. Brown’s touchdown catches were for 16 and 25 yards, and came from Jalen Hurts.


3) Jets beat Giants in battle of New York in overtime.

The New York Jets beat the New York Giants 13-10 in overtime. With 28 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Giants kicker Graham Gano missed a 35-yard field goal, which would have given the Giants a 13-7 lead. Instead, Jets kicker Greg Zuerlein of Lincoln, Nebraska made a 35-yard field goal with one second left in the fourth quarter to force overtime, and then kicked the game-winning field goal of 33 yards in overtime. The Jets have now won three straight games and have a record of four wins and three losses.


2) Broncos stun the Chiefs.

In a huge upset on the weekend, the 2-5 Denver Broncos surprised the 6-1 Kansas City Chiefs 24-9. This snapped the Chiefs’s 16-game winning streak versus Denver, and 13-game winning streak against AFC West opponents. The Broncos’s rush defense was excellent as they limited the Chiefs to 62 rushing yards.


1) Kirk Cousins out for the year.

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins of Barrington, Illinois is out for the season with an Achilles injury. He suffered the injury in a 24-10 Vikings win over the Green Bay Packers. In 2023, Cousins led the NFL with 216 completions and 18 touchdown passes.
