The New York Mets have signed relief pitcher Devin Williams of St. Louis, Missouri. The terms of the contract are three years and $51 million, which means he will be making $17 million per season according to Peter Chawaga of Forbes on Tuesday.

It was a rather disappointing 2025 season f0r Williams with the New York Yankees. That is because he lost his closer job to Luke Weaver at the beginning of the season and to David Bender at the end of the season. When Williams blew a save against the Toronto Blue Jays on April 25, he had a poor earned run average of 11.25.

The Mets are the third team that Williams has played for. He previously played six seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers from 2019 to 2024. During his time with the Brew Crew, he won the National League Rookie of the Year in 2020, and was a National League All-Star in 2022 and 2023. Williams had 68 saves over a span of four years with Milwaukee before being traded to the Yankees a year ago for starting pitcher Nestor Cortes of Surgidero de Batabano, Cuba, infielder Caleb Durbin of Evanston, Illinois and cash considerations.

In 2025, Williams had a record of four wins and six losses with an earned run average of 4.79. In 62 innings pitched and 67 games, he had 90 strikeouts, 18 saves, 15 holds, and gave up 45 hits, 33 earned runs, five home runs, and 25 walks, to go along with a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 1.13.

One strength that Williams brings to the Mets is his high strikeout rate. He struck out 34.7% of the batters he faced while in pinstripes last season.
