There is a two-way tie for the lead after 54 holes of the 2022 United States Open. On Saturday, Will Zalatoris of San Francisco, California and Matthew Fitzparick of Sheffield, England are each at -4.

Zalatoris shot a third round score of three-under-par 67, while Fitzpatrick was at two-under-par 68. Zalatoris had four birdies and one bogey on Saturday. He birdied the second, fourth, ninth, and 15th holes, and bogeyed the seventh. Fitzpatrick had five birdies and three bogeys. He birdied the fifth, eighth, 14th, 15th, and 17th holes, and bogeyed the 10th and 18th holes.

Fitzpatrick has seven wins in Europe, but none at the professional level in the United States. Zalatoris meanwhile was the leader at the halfway point of the 2022 PGA Championship, but ended up losing in a playoff to American Justin Thomas.

The fact that 2021 United States Open champion Jon Rahm of Spain is not either in the lead or tied for the lead after 54 holes is downright stunning. Heading into the 18th hole, Rahm had the one stroke lead over Zalatoris and Fitzpatrick. However, Rahm ran into all sorts of troubles to finish his round. First of all he landed into the bunker, and needed two shots to get out of the bunker. Then when Rahm finally got out of the bunker, he landed in another bunker. As a result, Rahm had a double bogey on the 18th hole, and dropped from -5 to -3, and one stroke back of the leaders in third place.

American Scottie Scheffler meanwhile was in great shape as he reached -6 after an eagle on the eighth hole. However, the Masters champion and world number one, followed the eagle with a double bogey on the 11th, followed by bogeys on the 12th, 13th, and 14th holes to drop to -1. Then on the 17th hole, Scheffler returned to -2 with a birdie.

Heading into the fourth round, three are nine players under par. Scheffler is tied for fourth with 2011 PGA Championship winner Keegan Bradley of Woodstock, Vermont and Canadian Adam Hadwin at -2. There are three more players at -1. There you can find four-time major champion Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland, and Americans Sam Burns and Joel Dahmen.
