Iga Swiatek of Warsaw, Poland is a Wimbledon champion, and in the process became the first Polish champion ever at England’s major tennis tournament. What we saw on Saturday was one of the most dominant individual performances in major championship history. Swiatek simply clobbered American Amanda Anisimova, 6-0, 6-0. For Swiatek, the eighth seed, she became a Wimbledon champion in 57 minutes.

This was the second time in Swiatek’s career she double bageled her opponent in a championship final. The first time was at the 2021 Italian Open. Just over four years ago she clobbered Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic, 6-0, 6-0. However, what Swiatek accomplished on Saturday was historic to say the least. She became only the second woman ever in the 138 years of the tournament to completely shutout her opponent. The first time was in 1911 when Dorothea Lambert Chambers of Ealing, England beat Dora Boothby of Finchley, England in an all-English final.

The only other time there was a double bagel score in a grand slam women’s final in the Open Era was at the 1988 French Open when Steffi Graf of Germany blanked Natasha Zvereva of Russia. This was part of a magical year for Graf as he won all four majors and the gold medal at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul for the golden slam.

In the final, Swiatek broke Anisimova six times in nine opportunities. Anisimova did not have one break point chance. Swiatek also won 55 of 79 points.

This was Swiatek’s sixth grand slam final. She previously won the 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024 French Open, and 2022 United States Open.
