The Denver Nuggets are the first National Basketball Association franchise in the conference finals. On Thursday, they eliminated the Phoenix Suns thanks to a 125-100 game six win at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Game six was significantly different from the first two games of the series in Phoenix, where the Suns won by narrow scores of 121-114 in game three and 129-124 in game four.
In game six, the Nuggets entered the contest as 2.5 point underdogs, but steamrolled past the Suns in winning by 25. Five Nuggets players reached double digits in points as Nikola Jokic of Sombor, Serbia had another postseason triple-double (32 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds), Jamal Murray of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada had 26 points, shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope had 21 points, Bruce Brown of Boston, Massachusetts had 13 points off the bench, and Michael Porter Jr. of Columbia, Missouri, had 10 points.
The Nuggets were the dominant team in the first half in the contest. They outscored the Suns 44-26 after the opening 12 minutes, and then entered the half with an 81-51 lead. There was hope in the Suns camp that their star point guard Chris Paul of Winston-Salem, North Carolina would have been ready to suit up for game six. He missed the majority of the series with a groin injury he suffered in game two.
Denver will now play the winner of the series between the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors. The Lakers lead the Warriors three games to two with game six to be played at crypto.com Arena in southern California on Friday night.
