The Boston Celtics are entering the 2024 National Basketball Association Playoffs as the number one seed. On Wednesday evening at the Toronto Dominion Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, the Celtics clinched the best record in the 2023-24 NBA regular season with a record of 60 wins and 16 losses after beating the Oklahoma City Thunder 135-100. It is the first time the Celtics have had the top seed heading into the NBA Playoffs since 2007-08. Sixteen years ago the Celtics had a NBA best 66 wins and 16 losses, and beat the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals.
In the Celtics’s 35-point rout over the Thunder, seven Celtics players reached double figures in points. Center Kristaps Porzingis of Liepaja, Latvia led the way with 27 points. Power forward Jayson Tatum of St. Louis, Missouri had 24 points, small forward Jaylen Brown of Marietta, Georgia had 23 points, center Al Horford of Puerto Plato, Dominican Republic had 16 points, point guard Jrue Holiday of Chatsworth, California had 12 points, point guard Prayton Pritchard of Tualatin, Oregon had 11 points, and small forward Sam Hauser of Green Bay, Wisconsin had 10 points.
Porzingis had a double-double as he had 12 rebounds. Pritchard led the Celtics with eight assists. It should be noted that Horford, Pritchard and Hauser had their productive games off the bench.
There are four teams that have clinched a playoff spot to date. The Celtics are the only team in the Eastern Conference. The other three teams playoff bound are in the Western Conference. The Minnesota Timberwolves and Denver Nuggets have identical records of 53 wins and 23 losses, while the Oklahoma City Thunder are third in the West at 52 wins and 24 losses.
