Bryson DeChambeau of Modesto, California leads after the first round of the 2024 Masters. The 2020 United States Open champion shot a first round score of seven-under-par.

DeChambeau, who is on the LIV Tour, had eight birdies and one bogey in his first round. He got off to a hot start as he birdied the first, second, third holes. DeChambeau then bogeyed the ninth hole to drop to -2, before five more birdies on the back nine. He birdied the 12th, 13th, 15th, 16th, and 17th holes.

Scottie Scheffler, the 2022 Masters champion, is all alone in second place at -6. Meanwhile, Max Homa of Burbank, California is in third place at -5, alongside Nikolai Hojgaard of Denmark. In fifth place and three strokes back is 2016 Masters champion Danny Willett of Sheffield, England.

There was another golfer in contention when round one was completed on Friday morning. That was Australia’s Cameron Davis of Sydney. He was at -4. However, Davis was at -3 after round one, then improved his score by a stroke on the second hole in round two. Due to the heavy rain on Thursday morning, many golfers needed to come on to the course on Friday morning to finish their round as second round play began.

In other Masters news, we reported back on February 2 that Bernhard Langer of Anhausen, Germany will be competing in his final Masters in 2024. However, those plans have been put on hold for a full year. That is because he tore his Achilles playing pickleball. Langer will now be trying to participate in his final Masters in 2025 at the age of 67. Langer is considered one of the very best seniors golfers of all-time. He won his first Masters title in 1985, and again eight years later in 1993.
