Brooks Koepka leads after the second round of the 2023 Masters

Well before the 2023 Masters, we discussed the 18 LIV Tour representatives, and the LIV player we liked the most was four-time major champion Brooks Koepka of West Palm Beach. Over the first two rounds, Koepka delivered and is currently at -12, and two strokes up on 2021 United States Open champion Jon Rahm of Spain. Koepka’s four major titles came at the 2017 and 2018 United States Open championships and the 2018 and 2019 PGA Championship.

In the second round, Koepka had the advantage when it came to the weather. He completed his round before the heavy winds and heavy rain entered Augusta. In the second round, Koepka had one eagle and three birdies for an 18-hole score of five-under-par. Koepka’s birdies came at the second, 13th and 15th holes, and the eagle came on the eighth hole. Koepka made a long eagle putt to move from -8 to -10 at the time.

Rahm meanwhile was at -9 after nine holes when play was suspended for the rest of the day on Friday. He finished his round Saturday morning by shooting one-under-par on the back nine to move into double digits. Rahm birdied the 12th, 15th, and 17th holes, and bogeyed the 16th and 18th holes.

History was also made as Fred Couples of Seattle, Washington, the 1992 Masters champion, became the oldest golfer in the history of the Masters to make the cut. Couples, who is 63 years, six months and five days finished the second round at one over par and is in a tie for 40th place. The old record belonged to Germany’s Bernard Langer, the 1985 and 1993 Masters champion, who made the cut in 2020 at the age of 63 years, two months, and 18 days.
