According to TSN on Friday, the Denver Broncos have released linebacker Frank Clark of Bakersfield, California. Clark was in his first season with the Broncos after four seasons each with the Seattle Seahawks (2015 to 2018), and Kansas City Chiefs (2019 to 2022). The release came one day after the Broncos lost 19-8 to the Chiefs. With the loss, the Broncos fell to a record of one win and five losses.

Clark only played in two games for the Broncos this season. He had two solo tackles, as both tackles came in the Broncos’s season opener, a 17-16 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. Those interested in Clark should note he was inactive on September 24, when the Broncos had their worst defensive game in franchise history, in a 70-20 loss to the Miami Dolphins. In this game, the Dolphins also exploded for 726 total yards.

Expectations were high for Clark when he joined the Broncos on June 8. He signed a one-year deal worth $5.5 million. The three-time Pro Bowler won two Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs. The first came in 2020, and the second came in 2023. However, Clark just did not perform in Denver at the level expected. The release was not a surprise to many when he agreed to give back $1.7 million of his salary last week.

In 122 career games, Clark has 265 combined tackles (182 solo tackles and 83 assisted tackles), 131 quarterback hits, 67 tackles for a loss, one safety, two interceptions for 31 yards, 58.5 sacks, 13 pass deflections and 14 forced fumbles. The safety came in a 44-23 Chiefs win over the San Francisco 49ers on October 23, 2022.
