49ers trade Deebo Samuel to Commanders

There was a significant trade made in the National Football League on Saturday. According to Rogers Sportsnet, the San Francisco 49ers have traded wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. of Inman, South Carolina to the Washington Commanders for a fifth round pick in the 2025 National Football League Draft.

Samuel Sr. is simply one of the most prolific NFL offensive stars in the game today. What makes him so dangerous is that he is a wide receiver who can run the ball with great efficiency. In Samuel Sr.’s career, he has 202 rushing attempts for 1143 rushing yards and 20 touchdown rushes.

In 2024, Samuel had 51 catches for 670 receiving yards and three touchdowns. He also had 42 rushes for 136 rushing yards and one touchdown. The rushing touchdown was for two yards and came in a 32-19 49ers win over the New York Jets on September 9.

With how strong Samuel has been over the years, it is surprising that he has only been to one Pro Bowl. That came in 2021 when he averaged 18.2 yards per reception, which led the National Football League. That year Samuel had 77 catches for 1405 receiving yards and six touchdown catches, along with 365 yards rushing and eight touchdown runs.

It will now be interesting to see what happens now in San Francisco and if the 49ers will start to move other players. Yes, I know that running back Christian McCaffrey of Castle Rock, Colorado is signed through 2027, however he played in only four games this season due to various injuries, and one needs to at least wonder how patient San Francisco will be with him.
